FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 6, 2023

[Nederland, Colorado] - The Town of Nederland has been selected to participate in the Colorado Tourism Office's Destination Blueprint Program, and will build on their successful participation in the Restart and Reimagine Destinations Programs to advance tourism management and responsible visitation efforts. This program assists Colorado tourism destinations to advance projects that foster the long-term resilience of the Colorado tourism industry.

The Town of Nederland successfully completed the Reimagine Destinations Program in June, 2023, which included a full day community visioning and action planning workshop and completion of priority projects with 100 hours of technical assistance support. Nederland's participation in the program enhanced collaboration between state and local tourism leaders and created shared alignment on priorities to establish a tourism leadership structure, understand community values to inform Nederland's identity, and build Nederland's reputation as a responsible tourism destination.

This year, through the Destination Blueprint Program, the Town of Nederland and partnering organizations are forging ahead to improve tourism management and visitor education based on community values and goals. The town will be hosting two events on October 30th and 31st, open to anyone interested in helping to shape the future of tourism in Nederland.

"The Town of Nederland is thrilled to continue working with the Colorado Tourism Office to improve tourism management and promotion, and we want to thank everyone who has participated in previous workshops and projects. This is a very exciting opportunity for Nederland to create a tourism management framework and strategy that supports a balanced approach to how tourism contributes to our economy and way of life. At the workshop and networking event we will share more about the "Do Nederland Right" campaign, and announce details for a Tourism Advisory Subcommittee that will guide the creation of a community-based tourism management strategy. We encourage anyone interested in supporting these efforts to join us for the networking event and/or workshop," said Miranda Fisher, Town and Zoning Administrator for the Town of Nederland.

Evening Networking Event on October 30th from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at the Nederland Community Library

At the evening networking event, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the progress we have made to improve tourism management and promote responsible visitation over the past year. Join us to connect with fellow community members and contribute your ideas to help shape our future tourism strategy. Complimentary refreshments will be provided, and we will have a Halloween-themed raffle give-away.

Community Action Planning Workshop on October 31st from 9:00am - 1:00pm at the Nederland Community Center

The purpose of the action planning workshop is to advance on progress made through the Reimagine Destinations Program. It will focus on developing a Tourism Management Framework, including an Advisory Committee to guide the creation and implementation of a tourism management strategy that fosters a more resilient economy, contributes to resident quality of life and preserves our natural resources. Complimentary coffee, a light breakfast, and lunch will be provided.

If you would like to participate in one or both opportunities, RSVP here by October 25, 2023.

For questions, please contact Peter Cacek or Miranda Fisher.

The Town of Nederland will also receive a creative production shoot valued at $20,000 from the Colorado Tourism Office. The goal of this shoot will be to strengthen the visual assets used to market and manage Nederland as a tourism destination.

The Town of Nederland was awarded a Tourism Management Grant in April 2023 to develop a brand identity that will illustrate and communicate the Town's unique character. The Town has contracted with GODOT for this project, which will conclude in April 2024.
