PRESS RELEASE –
On December 2, 2022, Visit Estes Park organizers announced that the Frozen Dead Guy Days (FDGD) event was sold to the Stanley Hotel and would be moving to Estes Parks.
While Town was not aware of when this transition would officially be announced, the event organizers had been in communication with Miranda Fisher, Town Administrator, about this possibility. Fisher met with a representative of the Stanley Hotel on November 22, 2022 to discuss ways in which the Town of Nederland could support Estes Park the weekend of March 17-19, 2023, when the event is set to take place. During that meeting, Fisher learned that the owner of the Stanley Hotel is passionate about keeping the spirit of FDGD alive, collaborating with the FDGD event organizers and the Town of Nederland, and is looking forward to working with Visit Estes Park and the Estes Park municipal events team to hold an awesome event there.
Over the years, the Town and FDGD event organizers have talked about whether the event had outgrown our community. Unfortunately, Nederland really does not have the infrastructure to support a 20,000-person event. However, Estes Park does have that capacity and they are Nederland’s Peak-to-Peak neighbor, which means the event stays in the mountains. Even though the event will not be here in Nederland, we have offered our assistance to Estes Park as needed, and hope to play an active role in supporting the Stanley Hotel and Visit Estes Park in hosting an incredible event in 2023.
FDGD is truly a one-of-a kind event that has been treasured by locals and visitors. It’s history and tie to Nederland will always be remembered and celebrated, and we hope that people will participate in the festivities next year in Estes Park. Town staff recognize that with this change comes an opportunity to reevaluate what events we can host and/or support that will still bring people together to celebrate arts, culture, music, and just generally have a great time.
We want to thank the FDGD organizers for all that they’ve put into building an incredible event and organization. We wish them and the Stanley Hotel/Visit Estes Park nothing but the best. We are here to help in any way we can and look forward to also reimagining the events that will come to Nederland in the near future.
