The Town of Nederland is hiring a full-time Public Works Utilities Manager!

The Utilities Manager oversees the Utilities department, and all aspects of Nederland's public utility services. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: water treatment, transmission, and distribution; wastewater collection and treatment; storm water collection; meter installations; and heave equipment operation and maintenance. They will perform a variety of administrative and supervisory duties. Must live within one hour of Nederland, Colorado.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate and direct work activities and schedules of utilities staff. Develops staff, including planning for necessary training and advancement in certifications.
  • Inspects new installations or repairs of all public improvements such as service lines for water/sewer.
  • Participates in the review of all private project development plans to ensure adequate infrastructure planning and compliance of plans to construction standards for all related infrastructure development relative to wastewater and water connections.
  • Attends various community and intergovernmental meetings as Town representative to obtain/share information, explain policies and goals, and gain cooperation and support.
  • Ensures compliance of all Town of Nederland Treatment Facilities with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Assures all work is carried out within budget; monitors revenues and expenditures to assure sound fiscal control and maximum cost-efficiency; prepares annual departmental budget requests.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • 3-5 years of previous supervisory responsibilities.
  • 3-5 years of experience related to water/wastewater, distributions/collections.
  • State of Colorado Water and Wastewater Treatment Class "B" certifications; Water Distribution and Wastewater Collections Class "2" certifications, or willing to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to take rotating on call shifts with 24/7 coverage. Must be able to work weekends and over time, as necessary.
  • Valid CDL license with appropriate endorsements including Class B (26,001 or more pounds), N Tanker, and without L (airbrake restrictions) or willing to obtain within six (6) months of hire preferred.

Education, Experience, and Formal Training:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

The Town of Nederland is hiring for a full-time Administrative Assistant for Town Hall

The Administrative Assistant performs a variety of clerical, communication, research, and data entry functions, and acts as the Town Hall receptionist. This position is responsible for performing complex secretarial and administrative work, providing excellent customer service to the public, and assisting inter-department communications.

Essential Duties

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for all phone calls and walk-ins for Town Hall during business hours, answering questions and directing inquiries to the proper departments
  • Posts notices, meeting agendas, and other important Town information in appropriate physical locations
  • Assists in the processing of permits and licenses
  • Coordinates Nederland's EcoPass program, processing new passes for residents
  • Maintains the inventory for Town Hall, and coordinates supply orders
  • Serves as a Notary Public for signing agreements with the Town
  • Retrieves, processes, and distributes incoming mail and packages to all departments
  • Receive and process incoming payments

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

General Statement of Duties

Performs a variety of administrative and supervisory duties to manage the operations of the Town Police Department, including budgeting, planning, managing, organizing, and supporting others to ensure effective and efficient operations of the department. Performs routine and complex public safety work in the performance and administration of police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, citizen assistance, and related law enforcement activities as needed.

  • Attends Board of Trustees workshops and meetings as directed by the Town Administrator to present budgets, programs, services, and reports, including analyzing and planning for future and present activities
  • Serves as the liaison for the assigned functions with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies, including various civic, health and human services, and community groups, as well as Town boards and committees. Attends and participates in all required meetings and trainings
  • Coordinates with other law enforcement and related agencies in various activities including, but not limited to mutual aid and investigative support
  • Initiates reviews, updates, and prepares department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to reflect changes in laws and/or the philosophy of the department
  • Develops long-range strategic operational plans for the department. Prepares recommendations and implements operational plans to ensure maximum effectiveness of law enforcement services provided by the department
  • Responsible for staff development, including providing interventions such as feedback concerning expectations, standards, a work procedures
  • Performs or directs research projects in support of recommendations for staffing changes, equipment needs, training needs, and ordinance/policy revisions
  • In a coordinated effort with administrative staff, prepares the annual departmental budget.
  • Collects, correlates, and analyzes criminal activity and individual officer productivity as well as other related statistics to determine the effectiveness of the department
  • Creates and maintains a general emergency preparedness plan in coordination with County, State, and Federal officials. Commands force during emergencies
  • Assigns the responsibilities of acquisition, allocation, maintenance, inspection, and disposal of department equipment and ensures the appropriate maintenance of an inventory list.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in police science, criminology, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field
  • Ten (10) years of law enforcement police experience at the city, county, or military level. Two (2) years' supervisory experience within a law enforcement-related field
  • Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment, as well as applicable criminal law, codes, and legal procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of Community Oriented Policing, its philosophy, and components

General Statement of Duties

  • Perform skilled investigative work involving alleged crimes by securing the scene to protect evidence; gathering evidence; and interrogating complainants, witnesses, and suspects; assist officers with investigations when a warrant is required; review and assist in the application of warrants; take over complex cases from officers when necessary (other duties can be set aside or transferred as necessary to work through a complex case)
  • Serve Search Warrants, Bench Warrants, and other court papers as necessary
  • Work collaboratively with the Town Marshal to select, train, and motivate Police Officers; provide or coordinate staff training including on-the-spot training; work with employees to correct deficiencies to improve and enhance team and individual performance
  • Review the work of assigned personnel to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures; review reports and summonses submitted by members to verify completeness and compliance with prescribed standards
  • Research and develop grants for assigned programs; oversee grant implementation
  • Serve as the liaison for the assigned functions with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies such as the dispatch meetings, detective/supervisor meetings, participate in coordinating, planning, and scheduling City special events
  • Attend Board of Trustees and advisory board meetings as needed

Education & Experience

Five (5) years of law enforcement police experience at the city, county, or military level. Two (2) years supervisory experience within a law enforcement-related filed. A combination of equivalent education or training will be considered.

Nederland Police Department Seeks Operations Support Unit (OSU) Volunteer

The Nederland Police Department is looking for a local volunteer for its Operations Support Unit (OSU). The OSU Volunteer would work for the Nederland Police Department and provide support to the daily operations of the NPD. The preferred candidate would be a local Nederland area resident that is able to provide a minimum of 8 hours per week of unpaid volunteer service, with the understanding that additional hours may be needed on a case by case basis.
